Wells City Council has been working with Accessible Wells and Somerset Council to deliver a proposed scheme of highways, parking and traffic arrangements within the city, based on reported and known issues.
This consultation relates specifically to proposed amendments in the following areas:
Yellow Lining Amendments or Additions
1. Ash Lane/Ash Grove (To apply lines to the entrance way of Ash Grove to assist safe traverse from the junction)
2. North Road (For Private household to apply a traffic mirror adjacent to property to support safe traverse from driveway)
3. Apply cycling dismount sign at Portway traffic lights to Wookey Hole Road to join Strawberry line.
Disabled Bay/Loading Bay Amendments
4. High Street (Retain bays in current locations, applying additional signage to enforce bay requirements from 8am to 8pm) from the current 8am to 6pm
5. Cathedral Green/St Andrews Street (Amend disabled parking bays, to create two ranks, opposed to individually marked bays, applying required signage and lining, increasing the available volume of bays for this provision)
6. Sadler Street (Amend the loading bay enforcement to 8am to 8pm, and reline the bay, increasing overall provision)
7. Tucker Street (Amend yellow lines to encompass dropped kerb, and reduce the size of the limited wait bay)
8. Queen Street (Reduce the bay size of limited wait and extend hours of operation to 8am to 8pm. Adding disabled parking bay – Overall bay size for both elements to increase by 1.5m)
Speed Restrictions
To all of the following locations, it is proposed to extend existing, or apply a 20mph speed restriction, with associated road markings and signage throughout (please see supporting examples for signage and marking locations).

Implementation of audible function for those with impairment at the following locations:

47. Liberty/Vicars Close (this may already have intermittent audio)
48. St. Andrew’s Street/Liberty towards St. Thomas Street
This consultation focuses specifically on the proposed parking changes outlined above and in the accompanying documents. While we welcome broader feedback, only comments directly related to these proposals will inform any immediate amendments. Other issues will be recorded for future consideration where appropriate.
