The Alaska Blanket Exercise Program is pleased to invite you to an in-person Alaska Blanket Exercise (ABE) workshop. This is taking place on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 1-4 p.m., located at the BP Energy Center, Birch Room, 1014 Energy Ct, Anchorage, AK 99508.
Registration is limited and early registration is encouraged.

The Alaska Blanket Exercise program is a participatory history lesson – developed in collaboration with Alaska Native Elders, knowledge keepers and educators – that fosters truth, understanding, respect, and reconciliation among Indigenous and non-indigenous peoples.

Through an experiential learning activity, participants will walk on blankets representing the land and into the role of Alaska Native people by reading scrolls and carrying cards which ultimately determine their outcome as they literally ‘walk’ through situations that include pre-contact, colonization and resistance. This exercise was adapted from a best practice exercise use by indigenous people in Canada.

Disclaimer: Topics will include boarding school experiences, substance use, racism, sexual abuse, and suicide. We will have an emotional support facilitator and you are welcome to take self-care breaks.

Approved Provider Statements: In support of improving patient care, Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. ANMC designates this activity for a maximum of 2.0 contact hours.
