Elderly persons not only carry the behavioral issues of their lifetimes, but we also develop new challenges associated with aging: most commonly delirium, depression, and dementia. In addition, the U.S. is beginning to see elderly persons with relatively new onset of substance abuse – not just alcohol and tobacco, but also marijuana and street drugs. You will encounter these issues as you work with elders, and you will see that they are disrupting family life, safety, and well-being of the elderly person. There are strategies and resources that can help, and this workshop will ensure that you are familiar with many of them. The session will include talks, role-playing, and responses to your questions and situations.
