Afternoon Professional Learning Session - Dr Judith Locke
Overparenting (aka helicopter parenting) is extreme levels of parent care for a child or adolescent which impacts a child or teen’s wellbeing and resilience. Dr Judith Locke, clinical psychologist (and ex-Barker teacher) has been researching overparenting for a number of years as well as treating families impacted by the approach. She has also written a book, The Bonsai Child, a guide for modern, educated and high achieving parents who, with the best of intentions, might inadvertently overparent their children, teens or young adults to the detriment of their child or the family. In this presentation for Barker staff, Judith will discuss overparenting and the impact on families, schools and society, as well as answer staff questions on the topic.
