Proposed Tribal Banishment Code

The Spirit Lake Tribal Council invites community members to participate in a 30-day public comment period regarding the proposed Tribal Banishment Code.

Banishment is one of the most serious actions a tribal government may take. Due to its significance, the Tribal Council is committed to providing an opportunity for community input before any final action is taken.

This comment period is intended to:
  • Promote transparency in governance
  • Encourage respectful dialogue
  • Ensure community voices are heard
  • Strengthen the fairness and clarity of the proposed code

The public comment period will remain open from:
  • February 26, 2026, through March 26, 2026
All comments and questions submitted during this time will be reviewed. Submissions may become part of the official public record.

We ask that all comments remain respectful and focused on the proposed code. If possible, please reference specific sections when providing feedback.
