Sustainability can be defined as improving human well-being and ensuring social equity for present and future generations while safeguarding the planet’s life-supporting ecosystems.  The graduate program in sustainability at USD would be among the first in the United States and would train students to become leaders in innovation at addressing complex and interdisciplinary challenges.  Students would be prepared for careers in natural resource conservation, social equity, waste and recycling, governmental and corporate sustainability offices, policy-making and regulatory agencies, public relations for businesses, research and development, education, and consulting.
