Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:
1.Understand the role and integration of musculoskeletal ultrasound in the diagnosis and treatment of athletic and common musculoskeletal injuries.
2.Evaluate overuse and traumatic injuries in sports medicine and formulate treatment protocols to facilitate safe return to sport.
3.Develop and understand current concepts in cardiac issues and ECG interpretation for athletes.
4.Reinforce and understand an appreciation for the importance of osteopathic manipulative treatment in the field of sports medicine.
5.Understand and appreciate the importance of other manual treatments and therapies, including TrP needling, Feldenkrais therapy, and pelvic floor therapy, in the field of sports medicine.
6.Understand and be able to integrate strategies to improve sports performance in the athletic population, including nutrition for performance and recovery.
7.Reinforce and understand an appreciation for the importance of concussion laws and prevention in the field of sports medicine.
8.Recognize the role research and scholarly activity play in advancing the science of osteopathic sports medicine.
9.Examine the role of ultrasound guided percutaneous tenotomy/debridement treatments and their applicability in the treatment and care of the athlete.
10.Develop and understand current concepts in the field of sports medicine as they relate to martial arts, rodeo, industry, and the performing arts.
