Tech Skills Survey

Grades 6-8

Please complete the following survey to accurately reflect what you can do, and what you may want to learn in the future.
1.I can collaborate online with others using a video conferencing tool.
2.I can use at least 7 the following 10 word processing program skills (format a document, do spell check, word count, set margins, change font size and type, set spacing and alignment, add headers and footers).
3.I can collaborate on documents and presentations with others using the Google Suite or Microsoft 365 applications online.
4.I can create a visual or graphic display (graphic organizer) that shows the relationships between facts, terms and/or ideas.
5.I can create and share presentations using a variety of applications.
6.I can edit and embed images to use in presentations, videos, infographics, or other digital media.
7.I can use the following Boolean search commands to perform efficient internet searches (and, or, not, and not).
8.I can tell the difference between real and fake news online, and have used one or more of the fact checking resources (e.g. FactCheck, Snopes, PolitiFact).
9.I can enter data into a spreadsheet and can create graphs and/or charts of the data.
10.I can select an appropriate tool to analyze, organize and present data (e.g. spreadsheet, presentation, poster, mindmap, infographic, etc.).
11.I can use citation making resources to properly credit a source online or other (music, videos, written content, photos, etc.).
12.I can use editing and commenting features in Google or Microsoft Office to collaborate and share my with work with others.
13.I can use appropriate technology tools (e.g. dictionary, thesaurus, grammar checker, calculator) to maximize the accuracy of my digital work.
14.I can make strategic use of digital media applications and tools to communicate my ideas with others.
15.I can use use some of the following strategies to determine the credibility of search results (e.g. existence of cross references, date of last update, and/or domain name ending such as .org, .edu, .com, etc.).
16.I can use can use at least 8 of these 10 shortcuts on computing devices (copy, cut, paste, select-all, find, hyperlink, undo/redo, bold, underline, take a screenshot).
17.I can break a complex problem down using computational thinking steps of decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithms.
18.I can identify unsafe and unethical content on the internet (emails, ads, clickbait, phishing, scams, spoofing, and bait and switch) and deal with it responsibly.
19.I can select and use different digital tools to tell a digital story.

21.I can customize my settings and use most of the following accessibility tools (change mouse icon, screen contrast, size of text, zoom, read text aloud, translate, etc.).
22.I can use dual authentication to be safer logging into my accounts.
23.I can identify cyberbullying behavior and take positive and responsible actions for myself and others.
24.I can troubleshoot many of the basic technology problems (run anti-virus, restart, check cords, install updates, do backups).
25.I can locate and use helpful learning resources to meet my goals (e.g. WolframAlpha, Quizlet, Spell and grammar check).
26.I can use social networking responsibly and use empathy to understand another person's point of view.
27.I can develop and manage my digital footprint to show how I engage positively with others (ethically, legally, and safely).
28.I can use a design thinking process to identify and solve a real-world problem with others (empathize - define - ideate- prototype - test).
29.I can use digital tools to apply and promote myself for a job.
30.I can search using advanced search techniques using filters and Boolean operators (and, or, not, and not), Google advanced search, and safe search applications such as KidSearch.
