Are you interested in working with other youth, community, and the Park Board to set policies and priorities for the future of parks in Minneapolis? Apply to be on the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Comprehensive Plan Youth Design Team!

Starting in the spring of 2019 through the spring of 2020, our Youth Design Team will help create the 2020 Minneapolis Park Comprehensive Plan. The Youth Design Team will participate in the planning process by:

·         Assisting with community idea and input gathering;

·         Learning about the staff, history, agency, and systems that make up the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board;

·         Talking to youth and adults about how they use and want to improve parks through engagement in formal meetings and informal park events;

·         Making policy recommendations;

·         Working with staff at the MPRB to develop policy guidance for the agency

Youth Design Team positions are paid, they are a great opportunity to build skills and experience, and a chance to help make parks better for your community.

We are looking for youth who meet some or all of the following:

·         Have an interest and/or experience with parks, environmental issues, policy, community engagement, participatory research, and/or communications

·         Live in Minneapolis 

·         Are between the ages of 15-20 years old

·         Have strong communication skills and like to work as a team

·         Represent diverse community perspectives

·         Are able to work in the State of MN 


The Youth Design Team will:

·         Be employees of the MPRB and will receive paid wages of $11.25

·         Work an average of 5 hours/week starting in late March or early April of 2019, for at least one year (with the option to extend)

·         Need to be able to meet after school and on weekends

·         Become knowledgeable about the project and advise MPRB staff and consultants throughout the planning process

·         Need to go through a background check, as do all seasonal, temporary and full-time employees at the MPRB

·         Participate in an orientation in areas including Park Planning, Racial Equity and Cultural Competency training, and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board Overview
