Researcher: I am Guy Leedon, a PhD student at the Research School of Management in the College of Business and Economics at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra.
Description and Methods: I am investigating if and how ideas about terroir influence the adoption of environmental agricultural and business practices by surveying around 200 wine businesses in France and Australia.
Use of Data and Feedback: I will use the information from the surveys for a scientific paper and for part of my PhD thesis. I will provide a summary report to participating wine businesses, regional wine bodies and Wine Australia, and other interested industry and research groups.
Project Funding: This project has received funding from Wine Australia and the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
Voluntary Participation & Withdrawal: Your participation in this project is voluntary and you may, without negative consequences, decline to take part or withdraw from the research for any or no reason at any time until the work is prepared for publication. You may also refuse to answer any questions. If you withdraw, your responses will be deleted and not used.
What does participation entail? This survey covers your business structure, non-specific financial information, your views of terroir and your vineyard and winery management practices.
Location and Duration: This is an online survey that will take 10 to 15 minutes.
Risks: There are no anticipated risks for participating in this project.
Benefits: It is unlikely that you will personally benefit from participating in this research. However, I expect this research will improve understanding of terroir and sustainable wine businesses, which may contribute to industry and government marketing and policies.
Exclusion criteria: To participate in this project, you must be an owner, manager or executive in a wine business that produces and sells wine, and directly manages vineyards.
