Step into Tech Volunteer Application

UNITE LA is currently recruiting professionals to volunteer for Step into Tech, a virtual work-based learning program created to connect system-involved individuals 18-35 to high-growth, high-demand careers and training opportunities in technology and entrepreneurship. The program provides participants with mentoring and peer to peer support, career and training exploration, Cisco Networking Academy training courses, professional development and job skills support, etc.

We are recruiting mentors who are professionals with a passion to make an impact, and speakers who are tech-focused professionals who would like to share their experience and knowledge with our dynamic participants.

The Fall Cohort will be a 6-week program launching Tuesday, October 10th, and meets on zoom Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11:30am, although most volunteer commitment times run about 30-60 minutes.

Note: Mentors are encouraged to participate in two or more sessions to help provide consistency and create bonds with individuals.

Mentor: Networking (Mentors practice networking skills with participants in 1:1 breakout sessions)

Mentor: LinkedIn (Mentors review and provide feedback and support with participant's LinkedIn profiles, this may also include helping to create a new profile)

Mentor: Resumes: Support with resume review and feedback

Mentor: Mock Interviews: Mentors conduct interviews with participants (Mentors receive training and tools, each interview lasts 20 minutes)

Mentor: 1:1 Sessions with mentors providing them additional support and guidance re career pathway

Speaker: Networking (Speakers provides an overview on networking including strategies, do's, don'ts, etc. )

Speaker: LinkedIn (Speaker provides an overview on LinkedIn, why, how, what, including strategies, do's don'ts)

Speaker: Resumes: (Speaker provides a do's and don'ts on resumes, a plus if they can speak on issues like time gaps for system involved and tech, but not required).

Speaker: Interview Techniques (Speakers shares an overview of prepping for interviews, the interview itself and post interview do's and don'ts.

Speaker: Career Exploration and/or Tech Talks: Tech Professionals are invited to share about their careers, experience, pathways, and/or present on hot topics in tech and share resources.
