You are agreeing to participate in a study conducted by a group of physicians who are trying to find out the type and extent of injuries sustained during Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training and competition. There are very few studies in the medical literature regarding the frequency and type of injuries that occur because the sport is relatively new.
We are interested in finding out the simple truth regarding injuries that MMA athletes sustain while training and/or competing in MMA events. We have no specific agenda regarding the perceived danger or safety of the sport. We are emergency physicians whose primary interest is finding out the numbers and the types of injuries that occur within this sport that has recently enjoyed a dramatic rise in popularity, both in spectator interest and athletic participation.
We thank you for your willingness to share your experience and your injuries. We hope to publish this data in one of the emergency medicine journals at its completion. All of the information we obtain will be anonymous, unidentifiable and untraceable. We simply ask for your honest responses. Thank you in advance.
