Childhood Cancer International - Europe (CCI-E) is the largest childhood cancer parents, patients, and survivors umbrella organisation in Europe, with currently 64 member organisations in 35 European countries. CCI Europe aims to empower parents, patients, and survivors across Europe and to advocate for their rights to improve medical and psychosocial care for children and adolescents with cancer, implement European Standards of Care, eliminate inequalities, and improve the quality of survivorship. Our organisation is steered by the CCI Europe Committee, consisting of 10 committed patient advocates from across Europe. The daily operations are being managed by the team of the CCI Europe Office, based in Vienna.

What we are looking for:

Childhood Cancer International Europe is looking for a Junior Policy Officer to join our European Affairs Team in Brussels and support the advocacy work towards the EU institutions and other external stakeholders.

What’s your mission:
  • Monitoring health & research agenda of the European Union (policies & initiatives);
  • Support the drafting of position papers and internal notes;
  • Support the organization of meetings and policy events;
  • Help coordinate policy asks within CCI-Europe’s pillars (Research&Innovation, Diagnosis, Treatment & Care, Survivorship, Psychosocial Care);
  • Support the advocacy efforts and outreach of CCI-Europe’s network within the EU institutions.

Essential skills & traits:
  • Excellent proficiency in English, additional languages are welcome
  • Great analytical skills and knowledge of the EU policymaking process,
  • Excellent communication, organisational, coordination and time management skills,
  • Team spirit and capacity to work with multiple stakeholders,
  • Advanced Office 365 knowledge.

Other requirements:
  • A master’s degree in law, political sciences, international relations or communication,
  • Up to 2 years of professional experience in advocacy/ public affairs/EU affairs preferably but not necessarily in the health sector
  • A valid work permit in Belgium
  • Personal experience with paediatric cancer or cancer in general or in patient advocacy as a bonus (yet not required).
