The 2020 Audit is underway, and the Audit Team would like your input!

About the Audit

The NWT Environmental Audit checks to see how well efforts are working to protect the environment, as well as the social, cultural and economic well-being of NWT residents. If the Audit finds something that is not working as well as it could, it can recommend action to make things better. The Audit is completed by independent consultants contracted by the GNWT and guided by a committee of Indigenous, federal and territorial government representatives.

The Audit is a requirement of the Sahtu, Gwich'in and Tłı̨chǫ land claim agreements and the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA). The Audit is done every 5 years. Previous audits were done in 2005, 2010, and 2015. Results from the current Audit will be released in 2020.
