USDA approved a nationwide waiver for meal pattern flexibility for the 20-21 school year for the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and Child and Adult Care Food Program (#36). FNS expects and strongly encourages Program operators to maintain and meet the nutrition standards for each Program to the greatest extent possible.

However, due to the pandemic, different safety measures may make that difficult during the 20-21 school year.
Therefore, sponsors may apply for a meal pattern waiver based on food safety, handling or logistical reasons. Waiver requests are approved on a case by case basis by MDE. Complete this form to begin the process.
