Provide input on the proposed Riverside Trail

The Town of Tecumseh has proposed constructing a 2.4 kilometer long by 2.4-meter-wide trail on the south side of Riverside Drive, from the Windsor- Tecumseh municipal border, west of Lesperance Road, to Lakeview Park.

It is our opinion, that by design Riverside Drive is unsafe and does not meet the minimum standards to accommodate best practices in active transportation planning. Riverside Drive should not be used as an alternative transportation route, and other options must be considered.

Please take a few moments to let us know how you feel about the concerns that have been raised about the current plan for the Trail.

Your response is fully confidential, your name will never be attached to the report.   These data will be used to help us better understand and communicate our community’s concerns about the current plan for the Riverside Trail.

Question Title

* 1. Please indicate your level of agreement with the following statement:

Riverside Drive is a major arterial road that is heavily traveled each day with vehicles often reaching high rates of speed, posing safety risks for pedestrians and cyclists if the proposed Riverside Trail is constructed

Question Title

* 2. Please indicate your level of agreement with the following statement:

The Proposed Trail is estimated to cost 1 million dollars plus the annual operation costs for maintenance and repair. The Town should Rethink where and how this investment in our community should be made.

Question Title

* 3. Please indicate your level of agreement with the following statement:

The south side of Riverside Drive has a total of 77 driveway crossings, 12 intersecting streets, parking lots that support nine businesses, and 57 utility poles. These impediments will negatively affect traffic patterns for residents, the traveling public, pedestrians, and cyclists on the currently planned Riverside trail.

Question Title

* 4. Please indicate your level of agreement with the following statement:

Based on best practices, the south side of Riverside Drive has unsafe trail design limitations. There is not enough space to properly accommodate a 2.4-meter-wide trail suitable for users such as pedestrians, runners, cyclists, wheelchairs, and skaters.

Question Title

* 5. Please indicate your level of agreement with the following statement:

The proposed Riverside Drive Trail introduces a series of safety concerns for accessible users, such as a large number of driveway crossings, intersecting streets, the unsafe distance between road and path is limited, and countless visual obstructions in landscaping.  These issues make it unsafe for all users, including those with accessiblity concerns.

Question Title

* 6. Please indicate your level of agreement with the following statement:

The proposed Riverside Trail will increase the amount of hardscape along Riverside Drive by 62,000 square feet. This entire section of the roadway has been identified by the Town as a Flood Risk zone. This increased hardscape will exponentially increase the risk of flooding, increase stormwater run-off along with harmful chemicals, negatively impacting the environment and wildlife habitat.

Question Title

* 7. Please provide any additional thoughts, comments, or concerns you may have about the proposed Riverside Trail.
