Question Title

* 1. Why Diocesan Religion Assessments?

The reports provide valuable information to the parish and families that can serve as a baseline to see specifically what is being done well and what might need to improve.  The Faith Knowledge Assessment and the Attitudes and Practices Surveys are given each year to 4th, 8th, and 10th/11th grade students.  After the assessments are given, in going back over the questions and having students defend the answer they chose, the catechist hears each student express, in his/her own words, what he believes.   This valuable discussion also strengthens the faith of the students by talking it through, step by step, and understanding the true answer.

This is your opportunity to express your questions and/or concerns regarding the Religion Assessments.

* 2. Why Certification?

Growing in the Catholic Faith through study and prayer is a life-long process.  It is essential, above all, for any adult who teaches the Catholic Faith to be deepening their relationship with Christ by receiving ongoing formation.  In order to properly hand on the Faith to the next generation, ongoing formation is necessary as “the quality of any form of pastoral activity is placed at risk if it does not rely on truly competent and trained personnel” (General Directory for Catechesis, n. 234).  It is a diocesan requirement that all catechists receive 6 hours per year, and catechetical leaders receive 12 hours per year, of certification credit in Scripture, Doctrine, Spirituality, Methods.  The parish schedule for this training is arranged locally, such three hours in August and three hours in January, for example.

This is your opportunity to express your questions and/or concerns regarding Certification.

* 3. Why Safe Environment?

The Diocese of La Crosse is committed to creating a safe environment for children and youth that is based upon the dignity of every person and respect for each individual as a child of God.  This is why adults wishing to work with young people are required to be background checked every three years and Safe Environment trained every year.  There are policies and training in place that help in maintaining a safe environment for all of God's children.  Further, the Church continues to have a special care for and commitment to reaching out to victims of sexual abuse and their families.

This is your opportunity to express your questions and/or concerns regarding Safe Environment.

* 4. Why the Diocesan Directory?

The Diocesan Directory is designed to establish one database for all Curia Offices to work from so that we may avoid sending duplicate e-mails and mailings to parishes and individuals.  The database contains the names of staff and those in leadership positons.  In addition, contact information for each listed individual includes their email so that they can receive current information and formational items every Tuesday in the Chancery Bulletin.
