Since 2015, progress has been made in creating frameworks designed to improve the experience of youth playing sports. Among them is the American Development Model, introduced by the U.S. Olympic Committee with the support of many national governing bodies of sport. Project Play also released its seminal report, "Sport for All, Play for Life: A Playbook to Get Every Kid in the Game," which inspired an endorsement by dozens of NGBs and other organizations of multi-sport play (sport sampling) for youth through at least age 12. Sport sampling is defined as exposure to a variety of sports.

This survey is designed to update our knowledge in these areas, as well as youth coaching, so the Aspen Institute can help organizations develop tools and resources that may be useful in growing sport participation and satisfaction among youth.
