18+ ICA Population in Ireland

More than 5,000 people have been adopted into Ireland via Intercountry Adoption.

The AAI recently conducted a study called the Lived Experience of Intercountry Adoption, where we interviewed a number of intercountry adopted people about their experiences.

We are now circulating this short, anonymous survey to follow up on some of the main findings of that study. This will help us to understand what it’s like to be an intercountry adopted person living in Ireland today. The results will help inform decisions about adoption support in Ireland.

The survey is completely anonymous, and it takes approx. 5-7 minutes to complete. All participants who complete the survey can be entered into a draw for a €50 One4All voucher. There will be space to opt-in to this at the end of the survey.

The survey questions cover issues such as identity, how you feel about birth family, and racism/discrimination. Some of these topics may raise new emotions, or may be upsetting/distressing for you. If this is the case, we encourage you to reach out for support – contact details for adoption-specific support services will be provided both at the start and at the end of the survey. You don’t have to answer all of the questions if you don’t want to.

You must be aged 18 or over, have been adopted into Ireland via Intercountry Adoption, have read the information sheet and given consent to take part in this survey.

This survey is being conducted by the Adoption Authority of Ireland’s Research Team. It is GDPR compliant, and every effort will be made by the AAI to keep your data and/or personal information safe and secure, in accordance with our privacy statement here.

The survey is anonymous. We will invite you to add your email address at the end, to take part in a draw for a voucher. If you choose to do so, once downloaded from Surveymonkey to our secure, encrypted system, your email address (ie your personal data) will be saved and stored separately from your research data (ie, the answers to the survey questions) in a password-protected file accessible only by the research team. Your original survey will then be deleted from Surveymonkey.
