Help Us Build Regional Evidence

Insurance affordability and access are important issues for households, businesses and strata communities across the Mid West and Gascoyne region.

These challenges have come into sharper focus following Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle, which impacted the region on 27 March 2026. Exmouth and surrounding communities experienced significant damage, while homes, businesses, infrastructure and pastoral properties across parts of the Gascoyne were also affected. Recovery and rebuilding are continuing across impacted communities.

For communities across the Mid West and Gascoyne, insurance costs also sit alongside broader cost-of-living and business operating pressures. The region’s vast geography and remoteness can compound these pressures through higher freight, fuel, construction and repair costs, while exposure to cyclones, flooding and other natural hazards can further affect insurance availability and affordability.

Insurance therefore affects more than household and business budgets. It can influence property maintenance, business continuity, disaster preparedness and recovery, and confidence to invest in the region.

RDA Mid West and Gascoyne (RDAMWG) is undertaking this survey to build a clearer evidence base of current insurance experiences across the region. We want to understand what homeowners, landlords, strata communities and business owners are experiencing, including the affordability and availability of insurance and the impact insurance costs are having on households and businesses.

Building this evidence will support place-based decision-making, regional advocacy and broader priorities for liveability, resilience and sustainable economic growth, consistent with the Regional Investment Framework (RIF).

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Responses will be aggregated and reported as general findings for the Mid West and Gascoyne region, without identifying any individual or organisation.

RDAMWG will publish and circulate a summary of the findings after the survey has closed.

The survey should take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

Responses would be appreciated by close of business, Friday 2 October 2026.
