Help Us Build Regional Evidence

Insurance affordability and access remain significant issues for households, businesses and strata communities across the Kimberley.

The region's vast geography, remoteness and dispersed communities can contribute to higher freight, construction, repair and business operating costs. These pressures sit alongside ongoing cost-of-living challenges and the Kimberley's exposure to cyclones, flooding and other natural hazards.

Recent events have again highlighted this exposure. During the 2025–26 wet season, the Kimberley experienced a number of cyclone and flooding events, including ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle, which crossed the northern Kimberley in March 2026 bringing heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Insurance therefore affects more than household and business budgets. It can influence property maintenance, business continuity, disaster preparedness and recovery, and confidence to live, operate and invest in the region.

RDA Kimberley (RDAK) is undertaking this survey to build a current picture of insurance affordability and access across the region. We want to understand what homeowners, landlords, strata communities and business owners are experiencing, including the availability and cost of insurance and how these pressures are affecting households and businesses.

This work builds on RDA Kimberley's broader research into the regional insurance market and will provide further place-based evidence to support regional advocacy and decision-making. It also supports priorities for regional liveability, resilience and sustainable economic growth, consistent with the Regional Investment Framework (RIF).

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Responses will be aggregated and reported as general findings for the Kimberley region, without identifying any individual or organisation.

RDA Kimberley will publish and circulate a summary of the findings after the survey has closed.

The survey should take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

Responses would be appreciated by close of business, Friday 9 October 2026.
