Participants of the Summer Academy will learn about and implement makerspace and engineering design curriculum for underserved middle school girls. PSAYDN will provide ongoing training and technical assistance.

Participants will:
  • Receive resources and tools to implement the curriculum.
  • Be able to use a data dashboard.
  • Have access to mentors.
  • Be able to build partnerships with local businesses.
  • Participate in a statewide learning community.
  • Have access to grant opportunities, events and curricula.
Limit: 15 OST programs. First come, first-served basis of successful applications meeting the requirements.

Training will take place between June 8 and July 24 with no training the week of June 29. The instructional time will require approximately five hours a week including class time.


Application Requirements:
  • Consistent enrollment of 25 or more middle school students in the afterschool or summer program of which at least 15 should be females
  • Minimum of 50% of youth participating in program qualify for free or reduced lunch
  • Dedication for improving access and equity in afterschool
  • At least one staff per OST site must attend the academy in its entirety
  • Staff of a program site that attends the academy in its entirety must create and deliver a train-the-trainer training to their staff not able to attend all academy sessions

    Continuing Education Credits
    Act 48 credits are available.
