Greater Manchester Peer Workers - what support do you need?

At Gaddum we continually talk to Greater Manchester mental health peer workers to understand their needs. We’d love to hear from you on the two recent suggestions below.

*A mental health peer support worker is someone with lived experience of mental health challenges who provides support to others on their recovery journey. They draw on their own experiences with mental health challenges to connect with and support others. This can be in structured peer support, such as a talking circle, or via informal support, such as in walking groups, gardening clubs, arts and crafts etc. Click here for more examples of peer support.

1.Q&A on working with suicide in peer support (online event)
A recent suggestion is to hold an online Q&A where you can ask any questions you might have around working with suicide in peer support.

What to expect:
The Q&A would be with a peer support facilitator from START: Reach Out; Start to End Suicide - a multi award winning campaign dedicated to the prevention of suicide.

‘Reach Out; Start to End Suicide’ has been bringing together suicide attempt survivors, those experiencing or have experienced suicidal thoughts and/or ideation in a peer to peer creative arts support group that is running at ‘START’.

Please let us know by completing this survey here if you'd be interested in attending.

If we have enough interest, we will set up this event.

2.Peer Support Celebration & Networking Event (in-person event)
A recent suggestion is to hold an event for peer workers where they can come together in person to connect and celebrate themselves!

What to expect:

  • Celebration: Fun and thought-provoking activities to help you connect and reflect on your journey as a peer worker
  • Networking: Share what you do and promote your work

We're looking at a catered event over a 3-hour period (probably from 11am - 2pm during a weekday) this Autumn at a Manchester City Centre venue.

Please let us know by completing this survey here if you'd be interested in attending.

If we have enough interest, we will set up this event.

Please note: These FREE opportunities are open to all Greater Manchester Mental Health Peer Workers (working across Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan & Leigh).
Please feel free to pass this on to anyone who might be interested.

Thank you :)

4.Any other comments or feedback on what you'd like to see Gaddum provide? Please give as much feed back as possible to help us improve and create the right support for you
5.I would be happy for Gaddum to use this feed back for promotion and to help to continue to secure funding to support Greater Manchester peer workers
