Rainbow Futures WA is gathering data on experiences of discrimination, hate and violence directed at LGBTIQA+ people in Western Australia. We are keen to hear from LGBTIQA+ individuals but that is not a requirement to complete the survey.
Recently, we’ve seen anti-LGBTIQA+ flyer drops in local suburbs, escalating rhetoric about transgender people, and increased reports of harassment. Combined with broader incidents of violence nationally and locally, this has created genuine anxiety within parts of our community. Public safety is not selective. When hate escalates, it undermines community safety for all Western Australians.
We do not currently have good local data on the experiences covered in this survey. We know that LGBTIQA+ people often do not report incidents of harassment, hate and discrimination to authorities. The information collected in this survey will assist us in developing a better understanding of the issues faced by our community, and to advocate for appropriate policy responses and much needed law reforms, particularly regarding vilification / hate speech and hate crimes laws.
We ask some demographic questions about you at the start of the survey to assist us in understanding possible intersectional implications of these experiences.
This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
