EBA Winter 2017 Conference Call for Presenters

Current EBA members are eligible to propose presentations for the January 15 - 18, 2017 conference in Tampa, Florida. To be considered for selection, please complete this submission form by September 9, 2016. 

TIMELINE:  

Friday, September 9, 2016 - All presentation proposals must be received by the EBA for consideration.   

Friday, October 21, 2016 - Notification will be made after selections are determined around October 21.  

Friday, December 16, 2016 - EBA Presenters must be registered in their applicable attendee category to attend the Conference.

Friday, December 16, 2016 - Final conference presentation and materials due to EBA.    

Reminders: 

Presentations will be 30 minute in length including Q&A (or 15 minutes for short topics, indicated below) 
Presentations may be slotted for any time Monday or Tuesday; the proposal should indicate if the speaker is unavailable for one of those days.
EBA is soliciting for more topics than may be included in the conference and several topics that are already set are not listed here. Some topics from the solicitation may be forwarded to Member Development Group Chairs as a suggestion for a member educational calls.
Topics not selected for the EBA January 2017 Conference may also be considered for the June 2017 Conference.

Green Dry Cleaners - Are green chemicals environmentally safe, are releases occurring, and is regulation on the horizon? Plus status of phase out of PCE in Florida & other states. Complements a separate Phase II Data Deep Dive presentation that is in the works.

International Due Diligence for corporate and CRE credits - Looking for a speaker to join a panel; speaker must have international experience beyond Western Europe, Canada & Mexico.

Economy & Market predictions - Downturn vs. uptick, and current increased risk appetite (companion to next topic).

Macro issues and changes in climate conditions affecting CRE - Reversals in selected business sectors; e.g., changes in oil & gas arena and impact on residential/commercial in boom areas; municipal drinking water; drought causing business shut down, deeper well drilling, and development limitations.

For Banker and Attorney Presenters: Foreclosures and lessons learned during the last downturn, thinking ahead - How will banks handle foreclosures in future? Description of steps a bank takes when a loan goes bad - exit strategies, types of foreclosures, when ERM gets involved, and limitations imposed on projects by borrower non-cooperation or legal situation.

Emerging contaminants - 1,4-dioxane, PFCs including PFOs and PFOA; aqueous film forming foam; nanoparticles - how are regulators & consultants keeping up with chemical manufacturers?

Recent court cases and regulatory actions with direct or indirect impact on lenders - e.g., US EPA requires ASARCO to cut toxic emissions; natural resources damage cases causing project delay or shut down.

CAFO issues & abandoned cattle dip pits/vats in Florida - plus unique FL lithology impacts for groundwater.

Lunch presentation: How to do a better job managing people - Let us know your suggestions for a motivational speaker.

For Banker Presenters: Policy waivers - compare at different banks, what rises to the level of being a waiver, who signs off and documents, and what factors influence ERM or Credit to not implement Phase I report’s recommendations?

For Banker and Attorney Presenters: Portfolio tracking and ongoing Borrower Monitoring - Data/statistics ERM gathers for reporting to management and related data/archive system needs; tracking of portfolio for continuing obligations/covenants, renewals, and new/changed regs and contaminants impacting borrower, while maintaining secured creditor exemption.

Short topic (15 minutes): Waste disposal selections - landfill vs, incineration vs. mixing vs. recycling. Costs, state of landfill longevity, risk to generators, long-term legal impacts.

Short topic (15 minutes or less): Salvage of mothballed ships - cleanup LBP, PCBs, and sediments before scuttling or recycling.

Short topic (15 minutes or less): EPA mining Big Data from waste disposal data submitted by industry.
