your Pride of Place Grant

In July/August we asked which services matter most, and where changes could be made, to help keep rates affordable. Your feedback has helped shape proposals to reduce service costs and the amount funded through rates.

What we are proposing

Council is proposing to remove the contestable part of the Pride of Place grant fund, which is worth about $44,000 each year at the moment.

Some community projects may still be able to get funding from charities, trusts or other organisations. However, some groups may find it harder to get funding if they no longer have a Council grant to help get their project started
Key points
  • Council proposes removing the $44,000 annual contestable Pride of Place grant fund.
  • Removing it could save approximately $440,000 over 10 years.
  • The fund helps community groups and marae improve local spaces, facilities and neighbourhoods.
  • The proposal excludes the $66,000 already committed annually to specific organisations and activities.
  • Council would continue administering Creative Communities and Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund grants.
  • Other charitable funding may be available, but some groups could find projects harder to fund without Council support.
