ABOUT THE I AM…FEST
After being presented in two continents, three countries, and eight cities, Black Lives, Black Words returns to Chicago to present the ‘I AM… Fest’: A celebration of Women of Color in Arts, Activism and Leadership, a new, bold and ambitious strand of Black Lives, Black Words.
We are eager to be in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant North Loop Theatre District partnering with the internationally renowned Goodman Theatre for three full days to present the ‘I AM… Fest’ – a festival dedicated to the voices and extraordinary talents of womxn of color.
Taking place on April 27- 29th, 2019, this new festival will introduce audiences to some of the most socially conscious female activists, art leaders, and playwrights of color from around the world; placing a spotlight on lesser-known plays from some of the most exciting international Black female playwrights, hosting a series of leadership development workshops, panel discussions with some of the most exciting and innovative creatives.
This exciting festival will culminate in our celebrated Black Lives, Black Words ten-minute play showcase, featuring a closing performance of 100 Womxn of Color performing the transcript of Sandra Bland’s arrest transcribed by Black British playwright Mojisola Adebayo.
