Course Title: From the Codebook to the Field (1 hour) –  1 PDH - NY1157

Speaker:  Keith F. Lashway, PE, FNSPE, FSAME - Director of Industry Development and Technical Services - International Masonry Institute.
In this one-hour presentation, learn how transferring the intent of the building code into practice is a primary goal in the design and construction of all projects. Making that happen can at times be challenging. In this session, code requirements are examined from determination through specification to installation. Tips on how the design professional can effectively communicate requirements through the specification process are offered. This course uses specific examples to explore the interrelationship of materials, design and installation. Additionally, how craft-worker training, certifications and upgrades and field level quality assurance can help to insure successful projects are discussed.

1.  Understand interrelationship between masonry materials, architecture, engineering, and construction.
2.  Learn how the intent of code requirements can be translated into specification language.
3.  Learn how structural & architectural mock-ups can be used as on-site training tools.
4.  Understand how craftworker training, certifications & upgrades, and on-site QA can lead to successful      projects.
