Infertile Latinas: Experiences In Seeking and Participating In Social Support Groups

Introduction
I am Carmen McKibben, a PhD student in the College of Doctoral Studies at Grand Canyon University, under the supervision of Dr. Patricia Dolasinski. The purpose is to explore how infertile Latinas narrate experiences in seeking and participating in social support groups in a Southwestern state of the US.

How do I know if I can be in this study?
You can be in this study if you:
• Complete a demographic questionnaire that requires disclosing personal demographic information (i.e. gender, age, marital status, ethnicity, education level)
• Latina female ages 25-45 diagnosed with infertility (12 months or longer)
• Currently or previously married in a heterosexual relationship
• Currently or previously sought a social support group
• Live in a Southwestern US state

You cannot be in this study if you:
• Not Latina female ages 25-45 diagnosed with infertility (12 months or longer)
• Not currently or previously married in a non-heterosexual relationship
• Not currently or previously sought a social support group
• Do not live in a Southwestern US state

Research Activities: What am I being asked to do?
If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to:
What?
  • To be in an individual interview (Approximately 90 mins)
  • Assess interview transcript for accuracy and validity (Approximately 60 mins)
  • To be in follow-up interview sessions
When?
  • Time confirmed by you and interviewer.
Where?
  • Interviews will be in person at a local library conference room. If participant cannot meet in person, there will be an alternative video conferencing via Zoom or Google Meets to conduct interview.
How?
  • Data will be collected using an audio recorder and/or Zoom, Google Meets, and Otter.ai. Userinterviews.com will be utilized for survey-based data collection.
Audio Recording
I will use an audio recorder or audio recording feature of the online conferencing platform Zoom, Google Meets, and/or Otter.ai to record your responses. You cannot participate if you do not wish to be recorded. Participants’ identities are protected using pseudonyms or participant numbers in transcripts and published materials.
