We need your input as we consider changing Elementary School start/end times.

In an effort to optimize programs and achieve greater efficiencies within Hamden Public Schools, the district is considering changing elementary school start times so that all elementary schools begin and end at the same time each day. This change would be effective beginning with the 2020-21 school year.

The current practice of two start times, though not ideal, was implemented because the bus company did not have the capacity to transport all students without a staggered start. At this time, First Student can meet our transportation needs with one start time.

Although a new schedule has not been finalized, all elementary schools would begin somewhere between 8:15 and 8:30 AM (exact start time to be determined based on other transportation needs within the district). Schools would end between 3:15 and 3:30 PM. Before and after school programs would still be available through the YMCA or Right At School.

This survey aims to collect parent impressions, thoughts and concerns related to a possible change in elementary school start/end times.
