Featuring Omar Dajani, professor of law, University of the Pacific, and Mira Sucharov, professor of political science, Carleton University

Speakers joining via Zoom with live Q&A and in-person conversation with University co-moderators, Julie Schumacher Cohen and Fr. Michael Azar.

This panel brings together two Middle East experts, a Palestinian American legal scholar and a Canadian Jewish political scientist, who have spent the last two years intensively traveling to, and writing about, the region together. They will discuss the recent devastating events of Hamas’ brutal attack on Oct. 7th and Israel’s destructive military offensive in Gaza and will examine broader and longstanding topics of Israel/Palestine history, possible just solutions, and how to have productive discourse and action across differences that advances the values of human life, peace, equality, and freedom for Palestinians and Israelis. The speakers will engage in discussion and take questions.

About Omar Dajani: Omar Dajani is Professor of Law at the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific. The son of a Palestinian refugee, he previously served as legal adviser to the Palestinian negotiating team in peace talks with Israel.

About Mira Sucharov: Mira Sucharov is Professor of Political Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. A former columnist at Haaretz, she is the author or co-editor of five books, most recently, Borders and Belonging: A Memoir.
