Information and Communication Technologies Model Curriculum Review Survey

The Information Systems Faculty Discipline Review Group (IS FDRG) very much appreciates you taking the time to review the attached Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Model Curriculum (MC) and related descriptors.

Subsequent to the initial vetting of an ICT Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) draft in mid-2013, the IS FDRG was advised that it would be problematic to forward the TMC draft for approval since currently only a few California State Universities (CSUs) offer transfer opportunities for ICT students. As a result, and in expectation of the availability of ICT degrees at additional CSUs in the future, the IS FDRG, after further consultation with industry and academic partners and with guidance by the most recent draft of the ACM Associate-Degree Competency Model of Learning Outcomes and Assessment in Information Technology, has developed an ICT Model Curriculum (MC) that will provide community college students not only with a two-year path to acquiring ICT skills coveted by industry, but also with a solid academic foundation upon which CSUs and other four-year universities can build baccalaureate degree programs in ICT. The IS FDRG restructured the core of the MC to include the CompTIA A+ curriculum (ISIT 110 - DRAFT), which will allow it to more efficiently serve as a pathway for high school students interested in ICT. A new 4-unit* draft descriptor for this curriculum is part of the vetting process. (*Subject matter expert FDRG members thought long and hard about introducing a 4-unit descriptor, but finally determined that the A+ curriculum really could not be properly taught in 3 units.)

To make room in the Core for the A+ curriculum, the IS FDRG moved the Database descriptor (ITIS 180 - DRAFT) from the required Core to the Electives.

The Computer Forensics descriptor (formerly ITIS 165) was removed from the electives after the initial vetting process.
