Curriculum and Homeroom Survey - Incoming FIRST Grade 2020 - 2021 |

Dear Parents,
As we continue to partner with you to provide a high-quality Catholic education for your child, we are pleased to share with you our survey for the 2020 - 2021 academic year. Learning more about your child's personality and learning style will better ensure proper homeroom placement by our educational team. Gathering additional information regarding your past curriculum experiences will help us to tailor our plan for academic excellence for all students. Grade Level Considerations:
Please note, in First Grade the students are in homeroom for most of the school day. They will have different teachers for specialty classes including physical education, music, art, STEAM (Creativity Lab), and Spanish. First Grade students' English Language Arts and Math skills will be assessed during the month of September. In October, based on these assessments, the top students will be placed in Advanced Plus English Language Arts and/or Math classes taught by a specialty teacher. Students who need extra support will be placed in a small group class of 10 students or less for English Language Arts and/or Math. These classes will also be taught by a specialty teacher. Those students who do not qualify for the Advanced Plus or Small Group Accommodated classes will remain with the homeroom teacher who will differentiate instruction based on the students' needs. Each First Grade classroom will have an instructional assistant to help with differentiating instruction.
Balance of Needs & Numbers:
Please know that due to the diverse learning needs found within every grade level at St. Junipero Serra Catholic School, one of our placement objectives is to balance the homerooms with a variety of students with various learning abilities, behavioral, and organizational needs.
