Strengthening Intergenerational Bonds in Immigrant and Refugee Communities
Many immigrant and refugee communities are experiencing challenges as they try to sustain meaningful cross-age relationships. Language barriers; differing expectations, values and beliefs; and competing demands can lead to feelings of isolation among elders and youth. Ethnic–based organizations and others working with immigrant and refugee communities can play a vital role in fostering mutual understanding across generations and creating culturally appropriate opportunities for meaningful intergenerational interaction.
