June 2021 marks the tenth anniversary of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) after its endorsement by the UN Human Rights Council in June 2011. The UNGPs and the Declaration of Bahrain have become the global benchmark to understand and distinguish the respective roles and responsibilities of governments and companies vis-a-vis business and human rights. Business organizations, such as the IOE, as well as NGOs and trade unions support the UNGPs effective frameworks for responsible business conduct. Moreover, as a direct result, many governments around the world launched national action plans (NAPs) for their implementation. Through its consistent work over the past ten years, IOE has advocated for business and employers’ organizations to thoroughly understand the UNGPs to appreciate the responsibilities of business, including ways to increase transparency, as it is a prerequisite to meet the demands of consumers, investors, governments and society at large.

In order to deepen and strengthen the implementation of the UNGPs by the business sector in the next ten years, we must first review where progress has taken place, what good practices are in place, where gaps and challenges remain, what are the key obstacles that stand in the way of the full implementation of the UNGPs, and how and what should be done to speed up the implementation of these principles taking into account present and future challenges.

With this purpose in mind, IOE has developed the following questionnaire for employers’ and business organizations. The information will be treated with strict confidentiality and you will not be singled out (data will be aggregated).
