The ALIDP is solely responsible for selecting and awarding projects.

Your project will be ready for construction in 2023.

The project proponent - you or your designate - will enter into an agreement with a landscaper who designs and builds the improvements. The ALIDP is not a party to the works themselves, but is a funder and advisor for the demonstration and research aspects of the project. Proponents are encouraged to integrate improvements into larger plans beyond the ALIDP scope.

The minimum duration of the research is 3 years. Proponents agree to the installation of monitoring equipment and to provide access at all times to the site for data collection purposes. This is twice per year at a minimum and more often for vegetation inspections.

To fulfill demonstration objectives, you agree to the ALIDP disclosing the address of the site and to publication of any media that may be created from the learnings derived from it, such as case studies, academic papers, interviews.

The proponent agrees to retain the improvements for at least 5 years from the time that monitoring equipment is installed. If the property is sold within that timeframe, a stipulation in the sale must be included for the works to be kept and maintained for the remaining time period. The ALIDP is to be advised if a sale occurs and the contact information of the new owner is to be provided.

Plant establishment and maintenance is a shared responsibility. A certain amount of plant death in the first year is normal. The ALIDP will assess and cover normal supplemental planting in year 2, typically 10% of the plant material. Maintenance is the responsibility of the homeowner, however, in the case of a new build, the initial establishment period may be the responsibility of the landscaper. Projects will vary and maintenance roles will be established on a case-by-case basis. The ALIDP will be involved in making adaptive management recommendations if something unforseen occurs and to help with, e.g., plant sourcing for replacement plants. We are highly motivated to see these projects be 'all that they can be' and will provide coaching as-needed.

In order to incentivize proper establishment and care of the projects, cash surety will be collected from proponents. The ALIDP will hold these funds until the end of the 3-year monitoring period and return the monies upon successful establishment of the site(s). The fund will be used at the discretion of the ALIDP for replacement plantings beyond normal attrition, which may occur if, for example, irrigation or weeding is neglected. The amount will be $1000 to $2000, depending on the size of the project.
