Necessary Qualifications
  • Practising and insured lawyer in good standing with the Ontario Bar
  • Demonstrated track record of trauma-informed legal practice and client-centred lawyering
  • Experience working with survivors of sexual violence and/or GBV/IPV
  • Accepts the hourly pay rate of $158
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas of law:
    1. Criminal law, including providing ILA/representation to sexual assault victims in criminal proceedings and criminal defence for IPV survivors
    2. Civil law, including sexual abuse law, litigation relating to defamation and non-consensual distribution of intimate images
    3. Labour and employment law including sexual harassment
    4. Regulatory law
    5. Human rights law
    6. Family law
    7. Child protection law
    8. Immigration and refugee law
    9. Housing law

Assets:
  • Has been practicing for 3+ years
  • Has special expertise with supporting individuals with marginalized identities, including low-income populations; immigrants, refugees, and non-status persons; Indigenous persons; racial minorities; LGBTQI+ individuals, youth; seniors; persons with disabilities; persons with health and mental health issues, etc.
  • Has additional language capacities
  • Is from a diverse background
  • Has experience working in northern, rural, and remote areas


Mandatory requirements to join roster:
  • Interview
  • Pass of criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Signature of rostering agreement
  • Completion of initial roster training
  • Commitment to complete refresher trainings to stay active on the roster
  • Agreement to participate in evaluation of the ILA program
