1. Humber College's Indigenous Knowledge Gathering - Welcome!

Humber College and the Aboriginal Resource Centre are pleased to announce the 2019 Indigenous Knowledge Gathering held during Indigenous Education Month at both campuses from November 21-23, 2019 in Toronto, Ontario. IKG2019 brings together a broad range of voices and perspectives, engaging Elders, community leaders, Indigenous youth, alumni and Indigenous learners across Ontario and beyond.

Educating the Heart, Mind, Body and Spirit

In considering the diversity of practices and traditions that exist within Indigenous nations, Indigenous education offers possibility, hope, and opportunity not only for the enhancement of educational outcomes but, conceived broadly, for the health and wellness of broader communities. It contributes to the scope of human understanding, offering values, philosophies, conceptual frameworks, and important perspectives on how to move forward in sustainable ways. Bringing together a diverse array of educators, practitioners, scholars, students and members of Indigenous communities, the Indigenous Knowledges Gathering provides a safe space to think about and actively engage in meaningful conversations about the role and inherent responsibilities of education.

This year’s theme, Educating the Heart, Mind, Body and Spirit, envisions an education system deeply connected to place, community, and planet. IKG will bring students, educators, and communities together once again to explore the knowledges, skills, and education strategies required to build a better future. IKG will feature an exciting program of keynote presentations, networking, interactive workshops, and breakout discussion circles, alongside rich cultural programming.

Goals for IKG2019:
- Increase opportunities for cross-institutional/community dialogue, partnership, collaboration, and allyship
- Build awareness and understanding of strategies that support improved policy, research, practice and leadership in Indigenous education for the benefit of all students;
- Vision the future; and
- Develop capacity to meet the learning needs of Indigenous students and communities.

We look forward to seeing you at the Indigenous Knowledge Gathering!
