You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Sarah Deck (The University of Western Ontario) and Dr. Craig Hall (The University of Western Ontario).  You are being invited to participant to expand our research and understanding on motivation within duo racquet sports. You are eligible to participant if you are (a) 18 to 65 years of age, (b) can read and write in English, (c) must consent to participate, and (d) must play a racquet sport with a partner of the same gender. If you do not meet this criteria, you will be ineligible to participate at this time.

Why is this study being done?

The purpose of this study is to determine what type of IER double racquets sport athletes prefer and find effective in different scenarios based on their partner’s play To do so, you will first be randomly assigned to read 1 of 2 narratives. The conditions differ only in terms of what information about game-like scenarios you will be exposed to. At the end of the intervention you will be made aware of the content of the two different conditions.

How long will you be in this study?

This will be the only session and will approximately take 10 minutes of your time. Please do your best to complete the questionnaires and activities in one sitting, in order to conserve your responses, as the site may time out with long breaks.

What are the risks and harms of participating in this study?

Participation in this study will involve the disclosure of demographic information, for example your age, gender, and occupational status, and this may cause you to feel slightly uneasy. However, all the information you provide will be kept in strict confidence, and no one other than the researchers will be able to trace your answers back to you. The risks associated with the study are not expected to surpass the risks associated with daily life.
