Curriculum of Inclusion |
Context
Nearly 5% of the U.S. population lives with a cognitive disability. In public health, we are tasked with assuring no one is left out, left unheard, or left with a lesser degree of access to their healthiest self. They remain one of the most overlooked populations in public health practice but their live's circumstance places them at an increased risk and vulnerability to preventable chronic and communicable disease and intentional and unintentional injury.
Geauga Public Health (Ohio) received funding from the Special Olympics to conduct two surveys. One is a survey of our nation's local health departments to help assemble and disseminate strategies to assure people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities are included in the efforts of public health departments across the country to protect and promote the health of ALL we serve.
The survey you have received is a survey of CEPH Accredited Schools and Programs of Public Health seeking to better understand if and how the curricula assures that graduates of these public health schools and programs understand the health equity issues facing the population experiencing intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Incentive: Early responders with a complete survey will receive a $50 Visa gift card while supplies last. De-identified results of the survey will be shared with all participants and will be presented at several national public health conferences.
