The College is exploring the development of six potential new Special Skills Years (SSYs) within Intensive Care Medicine training.
We are seeking views from Intensivists in Training (IiTs), ICM trainers and educators, and members of the wider ICM medical workforce, including SAS doctors and Clinical and Academic Fellows, across all ICM training programmes and regions. We welcome views from those who would not personally be eligible to undertake an ICM SSY.
Your responses will help us understand the level and breadth of support for each proposal, potential IiT interest, and any issues that would need to be considered in developing and implementing the SSYs. The findings may also be used as supporting evidence in future submissions to the GMC.
Each proposed SSY is described briefly before a short set of questions. The descriptions are intended to support this consultation and
do not represent final or approved programme specifications. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please submit your response by
Monday 19 October 2026.The findings from this survey will be reviewed by the College's Training, Assessment and Quality Committee (TAQ) and will help inform the further development of the proposed SSYs. They may also be used as supporting evidence in future curriculum change submissions to the GMC.
If you have any questions about this survey or experience any difficulties completing it, please contact us at:
