IA Review Process

The Saskatchewan Arts Board is examining how we support independent artists in this province. We are using the term “independent artist” to reflect individuals working outside of the structure of established arts organizations, whether they are pursuing their practice independent or collaboratively.

While this review looks primarily at the Independent Artists funding program, we are also considering our other programs that support individual artists – travel grants, professional development activities, awards and scholarships, and funding that supports artists working in communities and schools.

In late May through mid June, the Arts Board held a total of eight consultation meetings with almost 150 independent artists and other members of the arts sector and general community. Two meetings were held in each of Regina and Saskatoon, and meetings were also hosted in La Ronge, Prince Albert, Swift Current, and Yorkton. A summary of those meetings is provided in the document What You Said.

This survey has been designed to help the Arts Board “drill down” on some of the specific issues that were raised during those sessions. You will be asked questions about your history with the Arts Board as well as questions about who, what, and how we should support independent artists. Many of the questions are optional (a few questions, indicated with an asterisk, are mandatory and need to be completed before you may progress to the next page); please feel free to skip optional questions that you don’t feel are relevant to your experience as an artist in Saskatchewan.

The survey is completely anonymous, and it should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. At the end of the survey, you will be provided with an e-mail address and password that will allow you to enter a draw to win an iPad Mini 4 (64 GB). In order to qualify for the draw, your survey must be complete and your e-mail entry must be received by October 24, 2016.

We thank you for your time completing this questionnaire and for your commitment to making the Arts Board a better agency.
