Hunter Joint Smart Growth Comprehensive Plan -
COMMUNITY SURVEY

Introduction

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you for taking this important opportunity for all Town of Hunter, Village of Hunter, and Village of Tannersville community members to help shape the new Hunter Intermunicipal Smart Growth Comprehensive Plan. The comprehensive plan will guide decision-making around local land use and growth for the Towns and Villages over the next decade. Learn more about the planning process that will take place over the next year and opportunities to stay involved at https://plan.townofhunterny.gov/.

Our first step is to hear your views in this survey. We’d like all community members ages 16 and up to respond. Please share your thoughts about the future of the Town and Villages!

Your survey responses will remain anonymous, and you can skip past any questions you do not want to answer. You can also save your answers to the survey and come back to on the same device if you'd like. (Note: You must use the same survey link, device and browser where you started, without clearing cookies, in order for Survey Monkey to reconnect you to your survey. Responses on each page are saved after you click "Next.")

Please complete the survey by October 16, 2026. If you would prefer, you can pick up and return a hard copy of the survey at any of these locations: Hunter Town Hall, Hunter Village Hall, Tannersville Village Hall, or the Mountain Top Library.

Smart Growth Principles: The Town and Villages are developing the plan based on Smart Growth Principles of “compact growth, mixed land use, open space conservation, and attractive, inclusive livable neighborhoods and public spaces.” These principles are established by the funders of the comprehensive plan: the NYS Department of State Smart Growth Community Planning Program and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Catskill Smart Growth Program. In this survey, we will ask how relevant and important each of these Smart Growth Principles are to you for the future of your community. If you would like to learn more before taking the survey, please visit: https://dos.ny.gov/smart-growth-principles.

Comp Plan Updates: Visit https://plan.townofhunterny.gov/ for ongoing information about the project and upcoming events. The Comprehensive Plan Committee meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Tannersville Village Hall at 6:00 pm. Meetings are open to the public to observe. Check for online meeting options on the project website. Please reach out to our Chairperson, Marc Czmereys, with any questions at mczermerys@townofhuntergov.com or at planning@townofhunterny.gov.

Thank you for taking this time to help shape the future of our community.
