Project Background and Informed Consent

Faculty and students at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois, U.S.A., are conducting a research study to assess the overall effectiveness of the Humanitarian Symbology Scorecard, a map design resource that may be used to assist with the design of several different types of crisis maps. Your perspectives and feedback as someone involved with crisis mapping at a humanitarian organisation, international agency, national government, or NGO will be very valuable to the project. We invite you to participate in the study by completing the following short questionnaire.

The purpose of the questionnaire is to identify strengths and weaknesses of the Humanitarian Symbology Scorecard for crisis mapping tasks. In the following survey, you will be asked to provide input about how you might use the Humanitarain Symbology Scorecard for maps created by your organisation. Results from the survey will be used to improve future versions of the Humanitarian Symbology Scorecard. Please answer each question to the best of your ability. The survey is easy to complete. Your input will be of great value to the international community of humanitarian organisations and NGOs, and results from the project will be available upon request. If you have any questions about the project, please contact John Kostelnick, Department of Geography-Geology, Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois, U.S.A.
