WHAT IS A FUTURE LAND USE PLAN?

A Future Land Use Plan is a guide to future planning in the City that includes both a map and text that describes the plan for future development in the City. This plan will take into account existing land uses, natural resources, floodplain, economic development needs, transportation needs, and housing needs.

When new developments and zoning requests are brought for review, the Planning Commission and City Council will consider the Future Land Use Plan as one tool or guide as they make decisions about where certain types of development is appropriate, and understand the potential impacts developments will have on existing land uses.

The Future Land Use Plan is not a legal document or a zoning ordinance. It is a tool to guide planning decisions.
