About HYPU Scholarship 2018

Hmong Youth and Parents United (HYPU) is a non-profit organization that was created in 2008 and reestablished in 2012 with the vision to empower underserved communities. The mission of HYPU is to provide and promote educational, social and economic opportunities to underserved communities. This year, HYPU established the Scholarship Committee to fundraise for scholarships that will help  support students in pursuing their college degree. 

Award Amount
Two incoming college freshmen and four undergraduates for the school year of 2018-2019 will each receive a $500 scholarship.  

Eligibility
1. Candidates must be attending a 2-4 year accredited college or university in the Greater Sacramento Region OR candidates must have graduated high school from the Greater Sacramento Region and attending a 2-4 year accredited college or university. 
2. Candidates must have at least one parent of Hmong ancestry.

1. Complete the Online Application (Student Information and Essay Question)
2. Unofficial Transcript (Email to maiyang.thor@hypu.org)
3. Proof of College Admissions (For high school seniors only. Email to maiyang.thor@hypu.org)
4. Letter of Reccomendation (Not from an immediate family member. Email PDF version to maiyang.thor@hypu.org)  

Deadline
A completed online application and all supplemental documents must be submitted by 11:59pm on Sunday, July 15, 2018.

Recipient Notification and Award
Scholarship recipients will be notified by Tuesday, July 31st, 2018 and will be presented the scholarship at HYPU National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018.
