Healthy Land and Water is coordinating the review of the South East Queensland Natural Resource Management Plan (SEQ NRM Plan) and is seeking your input and that of the wider community. This will help groundtruth our data, identify values, gaps and challenges and prioritise actions to protect and restore the region's natural assets. We want to make SEQ an icon for its natural wealth, its liveability, and its people.

We've included links to the documents at the bottom of the page if you would like to reference them.

Please send any questions regarding the SEQ NRM Plan Review to info@hlw.org.au.

This project is supported by Healthy Land and Water through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
Please review the summary natural asset and regional risk maps before continuing.

We have undertaken a preliminary assessment of the status and extent of the region's natural assets (e.g., air, water, soil, native vegetation) and developed summary reports for each local government area, as well as a regional map of risks to natural assets.

Question Title

* 1. Which Local Natural Asset Status Summary Report/s did you review?*

Question Title

* 2. Does the report match your understanding of the current location and extent of natural assets in your selected local government area?*

Question Title

* 3. Greenspaces

Greenspaces generally refer to public open space for nature conservation, and nature-based recreation (In SEQ, approx. 21% in 2011; Ecological guidelines indicate that critical thresholds for ecosystems rapidly decline below 30%). While most authorities have over 30% of their designated area as greenspace, Toowoomba, Scenic Rim, Logan, Lockyer and Ipswich Local Government Authorities had less than 15%.

In your local government area, do you think the areas allocated for greenspaces are sufficient?

Question Title

* 4. Scenic Amenity

Scenic amenity is an expression of the relative contribution of each place in the landscape to the collective community appreciation of open space as viewed from places that are important to the public (e.g., the Border Ranges, North Stradbroke Island and Moreton Bay, Glasshouse Mountains).

In your local government area, how content are you with the scenic amenities available?

Question Title

* 5. Air Quality

Air quality is influenced by industry sources, smoke and dust (dust storms), as well as car pollution.

This map (click to enlarge in new window) depicts air quality hotspots relative to the location of significant point sources of pollution and their relative risk to good air quality. Please select your level of agreement.

Question Title

* 6. People and community

Effective regional management and stewardship is dependent on people and communities, and is reflected in resource investments, partnerships and projects.
The attached map is a snapshot of HLW member community groups that take an interest in managing the natural and cultural assets within South East Queensland. The map also shows HLW partner projects focusing on  protecting, managing and restoring land, water, biodiversity, coastal and cultural assets, as well as property and fire management planning,  and grazing land management.

Are you involved in a community effort?

Would you be interested? Yes/No/

Do you feel empowered? Yes/No
If yes, do you feel that your involvement and that of others is effective?

If not, how would you like to be facilitated to be more effective?

If no, what are the barriers? (give a selection of responses)

In your local government area, to what extent are people and communities empowered/facilitated for effective management and stewardship of natural assets?

A snapshot of Healthy Land and Water's Community and Project investments in 2019/20 can be found in our Annual Report: https://healthylandwater.com.au/cms/

Question Title

* 8. Drivers of change are the external forces influencing how the landscapes operate, and therefore shaping future pathways.

The 2016 review of the SEQ NRM Plan, "Prosperous SEQ", identified three key regional drivers of change affecting the extent and condition of SEQ’s natural assets.

Are these still relevant to your selected local government area?

Select all that apply.

Question Title

* 9. What are some of the current and future processes  and issues in your region that could pose significant threats to natural assets?

These could include large infrastructure projects, urban expansion, policy changes (e.g., water trading rules), transition to services economy, etc.

Question Title

* 10. Considering the change/s you have observed in natural assets in your selected local government area, will current practices maintain/improve their status?

Question Title

* 11. If you answered no to Question 10 above, what needs to change?

Question Title

* 12. Who do you think should be involved in the review the SEQ NRM Plan?

Who are your local champions, thought leaders and/or key influencers of natural resource management?
Who are the regional champions, thought leaders and/or key influencers of natural resource management?

Question Title

* 13. For the SEQ NRM plan to be useful, it needs to capture your aspirations and ideas about desired futures. What is your vision for natural resource management in SEQ?

This question seeks your feedback on the types of change you would like to see for natural assets, and options for navigating some of the challenges to a desired future.
