The Austin Area Urban League (AAUL) proposes a comprehensive solution to the critical housing needs HUD identifies in the Preservation and Reinvestment Initiative for Community Enhancement (PRICE) NOFO. Grant funding will support the AAUL’s vision of accessible, climate-friendly, low-income housing for all populations in Austin and across Central Texas, especially those who are LMI or who come from underserved communities. In order to accomplish this vision, we will implement the following activities: (1) Preservation and revitalization activities, such as repairing and rehabilitating existing housing units; (2) Reconstruction activities that will improve physical accessibility of existing housing units; (3) Environmental resilience activities, including upgrading existing utilities, installing new utilities as needed, and improving manufactured housing infrastructure to protect against weather events and natural disasters; (4) Support and advocacy services that improve housing processes for new and existing residents, such as housing navigation and relocation assistance, vital records procurement, housing mobility counseling, eviction prevention assistance, down payment or rental assistance, and advocacy with manufactured housing managers and local policymakers; (5) Educational services that will improve financial literacy and resilience, such as homebuyer and renter education, budget counseling, and long term financial planning; and (6) Referral to other wraparound services provided by AAUL and our community partners, including workforce development and job placement services, health and wellness referrals/services, and legal services.
