It is time again to award one of the many hard-working professional nurses in our community who has exemplified excellence in leadership. If you are not familiar with these individuals, please take a moment to read the brief excerpt on why they were nominated.

Jamie Boling
Jamie Boling is a Family Nurse Practitioner with a Public Health focus that is passionate about helping people that are suffering from mental health issues, chronic illness and substance use. She believes that everyone deserves to live a fulfilling life filled with optimum health and wellness. She is also a military spouse and sits on the board of the Hawaii Association of Professional Nurses. She is continuing her education currently pursuing a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree and plans to continue to serve the community of Hawaii.

Ruthie Clearwater
Ruthie is a Flight Nurse who worked during the height of the COVID pandemic, responsible for airlifting patients to care on Oahu while maintaining all safety protocols associated with COVID mandates. She is a recipient of the Association of Hawaii Public Health Award. Ruthie is now working on her DNP. She is a clear leader, moving from novice to expert

Dr. Bradley Kuo
Bradley has been an APRN in Hawaii since 2014. He has held many different roles as a clinician, business owner, and organizational leader and has been active in public nursing policy. He is past president of HAPN and current Chair of the Legislation Committee. HAPN has a place in his heart as we work to advance APRNs in Hawaii. He is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and owner and provider for Wellness Partners Hawaii, Inc., the first Hawaii-based Nurse Practitioner owned telemental health company, Wellness Partners Arizona, and Artistry Wellness Hawaii, a local MedSpa focused on making clients feel their best. In his work with the Hawaii State Center for Nursing APRN Policy and Practice Committee, he works with partners to develop legislation supporting positive policy change. He is also the Hawaii Liaison for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. In his previous work at The Queen’s Medical Center he worked as the Senior Behavioral Health APRN and as a leader throughout The Queen’s Health System as the APRN Committee Chair. He has received several awards, including the 2021 AANP State Award for Excellence from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Hawaii Association of Professional Nurses Leadership Award 2020, and Outstanding Advance Practice Registered Nurse of the Year 2020 for The Queen’s Health System and continues to take on leadership roles throughout our island communities.

Dr. Rick Ramirez
Rick Ramirez, DNP, is the program director for the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing. He has served on the Board of Directors for HAPN and as the Education Committee Chair for the past 2 years. He is driven by the need to expand access to continuing education for all APRN's in the state of Hawaii, moving legislation within our state to better serve APRN's, and a strong commitment to advancing our community and providing access to care to those who need it. As the Education Committee Chair, he helps coordinate educational information of the APRN Practice and Policy Committee with the HSCN, presents upcoming continuing education offerings from multiple sourses to HAPN members, and is currently working with several organizations on processes to improve access to APRN continuing education. He is Hawaii centric and wishes to assist APRN's across the state with quality education. His goal is to advance APRN education through graduate level education, continuing education for practicing APRNs, and through legislative efforts. He appreciates your consideration for this award.

Pamela Smith
Dr. Pamela Smith is the Associate Dean at Chaminade University of Honolulu which has a Doctor of Nursing Practice program with three track options. Dr. Smith has been a faculty member and leader in graduate nursing academia for over a decade and has maintained an active family nurse practitioner practice for 17 years. Dr. Smith serves on a number of state-wide nurse leadership committees, actively peer reviews proposals for publication, manages a number of health related grants, initiated a Parish Health Program for Hawaii’s community, and has presented posters at national nursing organizations. She received her EdD in Educational Leadership from University of New England, MSN FNP from Hawai’i Pacific University, and her BSN from Johns Hopkins University.
