Refrigerant Shortage Feedback
Looking back, how would you now grade your company’s pre-transition readiness for the A2L refrigerant transition?
Fully prepared – trained staff, proper tools, and stocked A2L-compatible components
Somewhat prepared – training started, partial inventory readiness
Minimally prepared – aware of the transition but no formal plan in place
Unaware – we were not aware of the specific changes related to A2L refrigerants
What is your current understanding of the key technical differences between A2L refrigerants and the refrigerants you’re replacing (e.g., R-410A)?
Strong understanding – confident in working with A2Ls (i.e., flammability, charge limits, handling protocols)
Moderate understanding – familiar with the basics but need more detail
Limited understanding – have heard of A2Ls but unsure of specifics
No understanding – this is new information to me
How is your company currently managing product availability challenges related to A2L-compatible equipment and refrigerant?
We substantially pre-stocked A2L refrigerants ahead of the transition
We’re relying on traditional suppliers to provide refrigerants as needed
We’re still selling any remaining R-410A systems while inventory lasts, but plan to fully transition to selling A2L systems soon
We see ourselves riding the struggle-bus for a while to come
How is your team handling refrigerant “top-off” for systems designed for A2L refrigerants (e.g., R-454B, R-32)?
We only top off with the correct A2L refrigerant specified by the manufacturer
We recover and fully replace the refrigerant to avoid mixing
We’ve used non-A2L refrigerant in top-offs due to availability
We’re uncertain about proper top-off differences for A2L systems
We haven’t encountered A2L top-off scenarios yet
